Championing The Case for An Inclusive Economy

It is unmistakable that ending extreme poverty in our time should be the core tenet of the post-2015 national development agenda. In particular, our agenda should be focused on promoting sustained and inclusive economic growth, job creation especially in the regions, improving living standards, and addressing open youth unemployment. How do you ensure rapid, across-the-board, and equitable economic growth that can reach the poorest of the poor? This is obviously easier said than done since if it were so simple, countries at every range of economic development would have already done so.

Social Entrepreneurship?

Over the past two decades, the citizen sector has discovered what the business sector learned long ago: There is nothing as powerful as a new idea in the hands of a first-class entrepreneur. Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change.

Fishing and Poverty Reduction

The rights of poor fishermen to harvest and manage local fish stocks need to be strengthened in order to fight poverty and reduce overexploitation of threatened coastal and inland fisheries. While fishing's role in helping people in the world's poorest communities feed themselves and stave off destitution cannot be understated, studies reveal that despite the food and income that fishing provides many fisherfolk still live in poverty, while social ills and health problems are disturbingly prevalent in their communities.
